Saturday Retreat at the Center for Mindful Learning

featuring Shinzen Young

In this program, you’ll learn how to work with your thoughts and emotions: mental images, mental talk and emotional body sensations. This technique allows you to:

  • Break negative states into small manageable pieces, thus loosening their power over you.
  • Love your small self to death by so fully opening to it that it becomes a flowing wave and ceases to be a separate particle.
  • Keep contact with who you are even in the presence of an impactful other and, thus, strengthen psychological boundaries in a healthy way.

In terms of neuroscience, this focus option is a way of detecting when your brain’s “default mode” activates, pulling you into memory, planning, fantasy and judgment.

By the end of this program, you will have the basic tools you need to track your subjective experience in real time and appreciate yourself just as you are.
